GTD #36: Hotshottin'

Total stinker of a month for training - travel and life kept me away from the mat. But the app keeps getting better and I'm so proud of what we've built there. We're in the final polish phase. Hopefully the next post is a little bit of self-promotion and the next evolution of this project.

I feel like I've finally settled on my goals in life. This, what I've learned from this to build into something else, and my career. A home back home, a place where everyone can come and stay. A family and a group of friends I care about.

Health, wealth and happiness. The American Dream, right?

Chapter #36: Hotshottin'
"In the realm of True Purity, there is no such thing as “I” or “He” or “She,” nor can “friend” or “foe” be found there. But the slightest confusion of mind brings innumerable differences and complications. Peace and disorder in the world, the distinction between friend and foe in human relationships, follow upon one another as illusion begets delusion. A person of spiritual insight will immediately recognize what is wrong and before long rid themselves of such an illusion."
– Muso Kokushi (1275-1351)

Training Stats

Yoga This Month

  • Number Of Practices +10

  • Mat Time +4h

  • Average Practice 24 min

  • Longest Practice 31 min

  • Mix Ashtanga (100%)

  • Mostly 25 minute sessions this month and the lowest total sessions I've had in a month in quite a long time. Travel and the schedule has been brutal
  • Here's what I can say with certainty though - the yoga makes a difference, because my body absolutely aches and it's correlated with the major decrease in yoga asanas
  • Just got in 2 weightlifting sessions at the beginning of the month, pathetic

  • One Piece continues to cook, simultaneously reading the latest chapters and watching through the Egghead arc
  • Backrooms is as good as the reviews! even reading the spoilers months ago out of pure curiosity didn't spoil it for me, great film and hope they do a sequel
  • Masters of The Artistry is a true good ol fashioned lo-fi beats album that hits the Nujabes spot
  • JoJoLands continues to show how good Araki is at storytelling and weaving in modern-day themes without overdoing it

Let's Take a Break
Sendō: GTD will be right back after a short word from our sponsors.

Coming Soon: The Sendō App on iOS!

The vision for Sendō Worldwide is far beyond the blog of a low-level corporate stooge, it's a worldwide mission to transform myself and others for the better.

For the past few months, I've been developing the Sendō (iOS) - a training companion designed to help you become stronger, healthier, and more consistent.

Whether you want to meditate, practice yoga, perform guided breathing exercises, lift weights or simply track your progress over time, Sendō brings everything together in one place. You'll also be able to earn milestones and share the lifelong record of your journey.

It's still in development, but every chapter of this series and every minute of training is helping shape it into the app I always wished existed. If that sounds like something you'd enjoy, stay tuned.

Support the future of what we're building here by subscribing to get an email when the app is released and new posts drop. If you're interested in being a beta tester of the app, email me.

Back to Sendō: GTD! We missed you.

A new month. What lies ahead? I've been talking with friends and family and it sounds like people are really out there making money and working hard, and I've been mostly sitting around being a bum. Lately I've realized that I need money - much more than I have now, and while I have to climb the corporate ladder in my own way, it's really now where I have to do the work and figure out how to get the bag. I guess I'll ask AI what it advises, but things like coffee shops or coffee trucks seem passe, and I don't think I'll be breaking into the landscaping business anytime soon in Texas. So what's out there for me? What am I good at? What can AI help me to faster and cheaper than people that don't know how to use it? This has been my passion project but it sure as heck ain't a business. It's my 'spiritual' contribution to the world, especially the app once it's done. But what's out there for me? Can I get it going with the tools and resources I have in front of me?

Crazy dreams lately. I know they say that dreams are the recycling system of your brain - it takes experiences you've had, puts them in a confusing blender and plays it back to you while your brain recharges, but man the dreams I've been having are so real and so beyond anything I've experienced that it's hard to imagine it's all coming from within. In one dream, I'm living in the desert on a compound with others when we're all kidnapped and taken on buses, sent to another planet to go into some sort of school/prison facility. Some of my family members are on board, but it's also a lot of strangers. They aren't scary buses, more like luxury coaches you'd take after a wedding back to the hotel. And we have luggage that's been unloaded from the buses on the sidewalk outside the facility, but I can't find a back Louis Vuitton duffle bag that I now apparently own, which distresses me, and in looking for that, I can't find my family. So then I'm wandering through this facility looking for them but they've already gone ahead, so I'm running past tables where employees are signing people up for various activities and I can't find them no matter how hard I look. There's some allegories there about life on Earth I'm sure but man it was bizarre.

The more confusing one, which I won't go into detail here, but I'm living on some sort of suburban street in a nice house where I'm being constantly bothered by some teenager - knocking on the door, going in the backyard, looking through the windows, on and on. After an endless sequence of Tom and Jerry sequences that continue to escalate, I eventually squeeze him into a tiny suitcase and throw it over the fence. At that exact moment, a nosy neighbor stops by and finds the suitcase, and then that flashes forward into a courtroom scene in a hospital with doctors looking over the kid and we're surrounded by a bunch of topless nurses as he defends himself in the situation. Is the kid me? My inner repressed self or something? What the hell was all of that about?

Both dreams felt so real, and neither was connected to anything I've experienced or every thought about. Both the facility and the suburban house felt so distinct but they weren't amalgamations of places I had been before. That's what bothers me most of all - could it really all have come from within? What the heck is my inner spirit trying to tell me?

Yoga has not been great this month - traveling again and by the time the day is done, I'm out of energy to get anything done. But I'm optimistic that I can continue with my training, both lifting and yoga. At least 10 sessions each this month. Got one last angle to add for the Home tab of the app that I think is meaningful - a Zen section. And I just had an IRL conversation about Buddhism that sealed the deal that it's a good idea for the app. It's all connected, right? And as much as I don't want to live in New York, I've decided to focus my mental efforts on making it happen. It'll happen in the right way, in the right place.

Many years ago I went to a Buddhist temple north of the city with a family friend and while I don't remember the day itself, the picture of all of there is burned in my memory. Literal decades later I went back and while I didn't go inside, it brought back memories and helped me remember that I've been on this quest for a lot longer than I remember. Life's interesting. And I think in my heart, I'm meant to live in Westchester or Putnam County, in a little zen place of my own. We'll make it happen.
