GTD #34: Carnivore

July 1st, 2026 to July 31st, 2026

Spent July mostly on the road so training volume was down this month but at least I got in a respectable 45-minute session. And the app is coming along nicely - I'm finally seeing the finish line of a great product that's come together this summer. Functionality for the core activities of Sendō Yoga is there, design is beautiful, and now it's just little flourishes to make it feel like a great experience. It's exciting, and I can't believe I did it all with an iPad and AI.

The other big update - I went back to eating meat for the first time in 6+ years. You know what surprised me? Didn't get sick at all. No upset tummy, no barfing, nothing. A neighbor brought over barbeque for the Fourth of July and it smelled so good that I couldn't resist...then the following day I had more barbeque, then the next day again, and it felt so freeing to look at anything on a menu and just get it. It's way easier to get my nutrients in for the day and I've gained weight in a good way. Going forward I'll be mindful about how much meat I eat, but it feels good to have this freedom again. I still weep for the animals being mistreated in factory farms and I'll always advocate for the highest quality and ethically sourced meat, but in another way, I've accepted that I'm part of the world, and that involves needing meat to survive.

I'm still being mindful, just more involved in the world. That too, is yoga.

Chapter #34: Carnivore
"When you look closely, you see that people of the present are none other than people of old, and the functions of the present are none other than the functions of the past; even going through a thousand changes and myriad transformations, here it is just necessary for you to recognize it first hand before you can attain it."
- Foyan (1067-1120)

  • Number Of Practices +12

  • Mat Time +5.45h

  • Average Practice 27 min

  • Longest Practice 46 min

Used the Sendō MVP app to track these workouts which was cool! And made some improvements to the app using my own experience. What a beautiful feedback loop. Next month I expect to get in 10 lifting workouts so we'll have better data and more refinement.

Don't go anywhere! Sendō: GTD will be right back after a short word from our sponsors.

Coming Soon: The Sendō Training App on iOS!

The vision for Sendō Worldwide is far beyond the blog of a low-level corporate stooge, it's a worldwide mission to transform myself and others for the better.

For the past few months, I've been developing the Sendō Training App - a training companion designed to help you become stronger, healthier, and more consistent.

Whether you want to meditate, practice yoga, perform guided breathing exercises, lift weights, manage your nutrition, or simply track your progress over time, Sendō brings everything together in one place.

You'll also be able to complete training challenges, earn milestones, view detailed statistics, and build a lifelong record of your journey.

It's still in development, but every chapter of this series and every hour of training is helping shape it into the app I always wished existed. If that sounds like something you'd enjoy, stay tuned.

Support the future of what we're building here by subscribing to get an email when the app is released and new posts drop. If you're interested in being a beta tester of the app, email me.

Spent a lovely weekend with family. Helps hammer in the fact that we need a community of people that get us, and honestly just as importantly, that a lot of us are struggling with work we don't necessarily care for but are compelled to do for the sake of paying bills. It's frustrating, but there's also a lot of benefits to our capitalist society - there's a whole lot of comfort and convenience in our lives. But if it's in sacrifice of spending time with our family, is it really worth it? I come from an immigrant family, so the answer is always yes. And so I'm compelled, just like them, to pour my energy into meaningless endeavors for the sake of paying bills. There is hope, and I feel more emboldened to deliver that hope for the people I love.

Even if we don't see eye to eye, even if when we talk, I kind of realize that we're on different ends of the spectrum of life, I still want to provide for you and support you. That weighs on my mind more than ever now that I have a family of my own.

What I have I done with Sendō? Well, I'm calling my practice Sendō Yoga, which will be the name of the app as well. Haven't had a ton of dev time in the last week, spent a lot of time cleaning up and reorganizing the Research articles which are looking much better. I included a ton of related links in each article which will need to be redone, so that'll be my next move today.

Last thing - I finally broke edge and had meat for the first time in 5+ years this weekend. A neighbor brought over some delicious homemade BBQ, and it smelled so good that I figured, if they took the time to prepare food and bring it over out of the kindness of their heart, it would be OK to enjoy. It's all about intention, and even if I don't know if the meat was ethically sourced, I'm grateful for their food, so I ate it happily. It tasted delicious and I didn't get sick at all! So then later that weekend we went out to a famous BBQ place here in Texas and I went for it again - bison ribs and burnt ends. Incredibly good and again, no issues. I don't think I'll eat meat on the regular, but it was nice to enjoy it again. It's all about intention, and so my intention is to eat sparingly and as intentionally as possible. I might lose a couple spirit points but overall I think it's OK. Good vibrations all around.

On reflection I haven't been doing good on my spiritual quest at all. I've been updating the website and working on the app, and reflecting on the guiding principles that drive what I'm trying to do. Being honest, being humble, making the right use of my energy, even cleanliness...I'm not doing any of it. Instead I'm wasting my time and energy on stupid things like cars, fixating on things that won't benefit me, and not connecting with the people around me. How I can expect others to follow these principles when I barely do? I'm grateful because they serve as a guiding light for me to follow, and they always have been, but I realized that now is the time to actually get serious and live a yogic/spiritual/honest life. Sure I didn't eat meat for years, but if I'm still wasting my energy, what good am I really doing? So that's been a major wakeup call to focus my energy more consistently.

Traveling again. I don't even know where 'home' is, which is frustrating. It's never felt like the northeast to me, and when I really think about it, I never really integrated into Austin, Texas either. And yeah, sure, home is where the heart is. But then again, maybe that is true. I never committed fully to either place so neither of them felt like home. I feel disgusted and frustrated with myself very often lately. Like, man if I were smarter, if I reflected more on what I wanted out of life sooner and earlier, I wouldn't have caused so much pain and suffering for myself and others. But I didn't, and here I am. And here is the life that I have to live. This is it. The world already thinks I'm a fool and a loser, so really I've got nothing to lose apart from a steady paycheck. But that would hurt too. But I'm going to gamble on myself, once again, to break through to another level of life.

Struggling to get my yoga sessions in this month but the training continues. The hero's journey enters a new phase - for the longest time I never wanted to move home, but after spending time with family over the last two weeks, I'm starting to accept that it's the healthiest thing for me and my own growing family. I love Texas, I love the American southwest, I love the spirit of freedom and adventure it puts in my heart. The northeast gives me the exact opposite feeling. But like the hero's journey, I went far away, experienced many things, and I come back home with the lessons I've learned as a new person. That's how I feel. But things are even harder now - houses are crazy expensive, I have a lot of goals to hit, and time is running out. Some people have family money, some people get big loans to move things along. I don't have that. So how can I get through to the next level? I have faith, I suppose. In this project, in the money that it could provide, in the vision I have for the future that has changed slightly, but still remains the same. Work is busier than ever and I need to stay in the game, but to truly get to the next level, I've got to go far beyond who I currently am. That's the hard part, but the faith remains in my heart and mind. I can do this. I will do this. It's the only path forward that feels right. But how do I get from here to there?

Guided by faith, not by sight. Just doing to do the work and see where the chips fall.

Man I looked in the mirror this morning and was like, yuck. I seriously need to drink more water and take better care of my health. Physically I'm doing yoga, mentally I'm doing morning meditation, but if I really look up close, I'm constantly feeding my body poison - way too much coffee, eating random junk food, Velos, very little water. Constant hot showers, poor sleep, doomscrolling, the list goes on. Sure I'm meditating and doing yoga asanas every other day, but that's not the true yoga path I'm trying to live. When I'm doomscrolling, sometimes it's entertainment, sometimes it's me fixating on the next car I want to buy that'll solve all my problems, sometime it's the stream of thots. But at the end of the day, none of it's good. I need to be more mindful of my time.
