What is Sendō?
Sendō Distance Running (SDR) creates faster runners and better people through our training system, motivational goals, entertaining content and community.
1. Training System: A balanced approach to training based on running, strength training, and yoga. We offer free training plans, pace calculators, drills, race-day checklists, gear guides, and nutrition tips to help you level up, no matter where you’re starting from.
2. The Challenge: A structured roadmap to transform through running. The Challenge challenges you to complete the following events: 5K, 10K, Half-Marathon, Marathon, 50 Miler, 100 Miler, and The Speed Project (341 miles). Each race you complete earns you a real-world Sendō medal. You keep running and leveling up like the belt system in martial arts and gym badges in Pokémon.
3. My Story: My blog, Go The Distance, tracks my journey through The Challenge. It’s filled with data, photos, failures, breakthroughs, and tips. I’m building the system by testing it on myself. As we grow, we'll tell other people's stories.
4. Community: You're not alone. We can grow further, together.
- Run Club: There's monthly challenges on Strava and quarterly hangouts where we mix social service with community by running food kitchens, cleanup crew and more.
Why This Exists
This isn’t a pro athlete’s tale of dominance—it’s a story of rebuilding.
After years of self-imposed isolation, I realized that running, yoga, and writing were my way back. Sendō is the system I built to evolve—and connect. During the pandemic I was a deadbeat, and even after lockdowns ended I struggled to get my life moving forward. Running and writing were the two ways I was able to grow, improve and connect with others.
It’s 100% free to read and use. I fund it through merch, Patron support, and optional services like coaching, pacing, and training camps. I’m not in this for profit—this is soul work. And maybe, it’ll help others turn things around too.
As a lifelong fan of comic books and video games, this is my real-world quest. A training adventure powered by purpose.
Who Am I?
Anonymous for now. This is cringe. And like superheroes, I’m trying to represent an idea, not a person. So I’ll train hard, write my heart out, and keep uploading my data.

End Goal
#1: I complete The Challenge in a reasonable amount of time. Then I do it again, even faster, and win a race in every category.
#2: My story inspires others to choose their own adventure and get after it: ideally by using the Sendō training system, completing The Challenge, rocking lots of merch and becoming Patrons. No matter what, I hope that they follow their dreams and inspire someone next to them to go for it and help them there.

- 100+ Patrons: The dream expands—training camps, safe spaces, and our own races become real
- 1,000+ Patrons: We're going global baby.

Mission Plan
Mission
To transform people into faster runners and better people.
To entertain, educate, and inspire the world to dream free and dream big.
Revenue Model
Though Sendō is free to access, these income streams sustain its growth and evolution:
Merchandise
Limited-run apparel, training journals, medals, posters, and stickers—designed with flair and purpose. Think: gear that feels like part of the challenge, earned through action.
Patronage
A membership-style donation model with tiered perks—early access to content, exclusive community spaces, behind-the-scenes updates, and discounts on services and gear.
Audience
- Runners who want more than just mileage—those craving transformation, discipline, and a deeper sense of purpose.
- People returning to fitness after burnout or isolation, who are seeking community and structure without toxic intensity.
- Creative souls and gamers who want real-world progress that feels just as rewarding.
Marketing Plan
The Blog
A space for storytelling, progress logs, gear reviews, and mindset shifts.
Social Media
Primarily Instagram and Strava. Share training visuals, Challenge updates, behind-the-scenes design work, user stories, and community highlights. Incorporate Reels and Stories for reach and engagement.
Email List
A weekly dispatch of new articles, resources, events, and reflections. Occasional limited merch drops or early-bird offers to reward loyal readers.
Run Club
Grassroots growth through meetups, group runs, and races under the Sendō banner. Serve as an onboarding tool for new followers and an offline extension of the brand.
Collaborations
Partner with running brands, yoga studios, ethical outdoor companies, and indie creators that align with Sendō values. Consider collab merch, co-hosted events, or ambassador swaps.
Ambassador Program
Invite engaged community members to represent Sendō in their cities—leading runs, sharing content, or hosting local challenges.
Content Series or Challenges
Host monthly or seasonal content series or physical challenges (like a "100 Mile Month" or "Yoga Every Day Week") to drive engagement and habit-building.
Press & Media Outreach
Pitch stories or interviews to running blogs, endurance podcasts, design-focused media, or wellness publications that bridge sport and self-improvement.
Funding Requirements
To keep SDR free and independent, these are the core funding needs. Total baseline cost: ~$200/month (plus project-based expenses for gear, races, and merch).
1. Website & Platform Costs (~$100/month)
- Hosting & Publishing: Ghost or similar ($36/month)
- Email + Domain Management: Google Suite ($12/month)
- Payment Processing: Stripe & store fees (varies; minimal fixed costs)
- Miscellaneous Tools: Link tracking, analytics, backup tools (~$10–$20/month)
2. Training & Content Creation (~$100/month)
- Strava Premium: $12/month — to track and share real-time training data

Risks and Mitigation
Potential Challenges
- Mission Resonance (Product-Market Fit)
The concept of Sendō—part training system, part personal journey—may not immediately click with casual runners or traditional audiences. - Injury or Burnout (Personnel Risk)
If I’m unable to run or create content due to injury or mental exhaustion, momentum could stall. - Financial Instability
Without steady support, I may be forced to prioritize survival work over Sendō’s long-term development. - Slow Growth / Low Traction
As an unconventional project without viral gimmicks, growing an audience may be a slow burn. - Time Constraints
Balancing training, writing, community building, and web upkeep requires serious weekly commitment—especially as a one-person team.
Strategies for Mitigation
- Mission Resonance
Stay responsive to what resonates. Use blog metrics, reader feedback, and social engagement to adjust course. Experiment with new formats: audio updates, community challenges, or new Quest medals. - Injury & Burnout
Train smart and steady, not recklessly. Prioritize mobility, rest, and recovery. If sidelined, shift focus to guest stories, community content, or deeper resource building. The system goes beyond one body. - Financial Backing
Maintain a lean budget and full transparency. Publish Sendō’s actual monthly costs to build trust. Cultivate patron support through authenticity—not pressure. Focus on organic, sustainable growth over quick cash grabs. - Slow Growth
Embrace the underground. Guerrilla marketing—flyers, stickers, and DIY ads—will reach people who get it. Every runner who joins is part of something rare. Real ones over reach. - Time Management
Build a weekly pipeline: a repeatable rhythm for training, content drops, and small projects. Limit scope, embrace version 1s, and let momentum compound.
Bottom line
Sendō is a slow quest by design. It's not about scaling fast—it's about lasting. With care, consistency, and community, we can turn these risks into creative constraints and grow something meaningful, together.
